THE MOST CONVENIENT WAY TO FIRE SOMEONE

Recently, 1,700 employees at Sanofi-Aventis pharmaceuticals, the world's fourth-biggest drugmaker, were laid off from work via an automated phone call that told them to stop working immediately, and that they had no opportunity for question or comment.

The company told its employees they would be paid through Dec. 31, and gave them a severance package.

In my mind, this is simply the worst time of the year to do this, and the company commented saying, "We acknowledged in the call that delivering this news on a teleconference wasn't ideal, but given the scope and scale of the reductions, there was no other way to share this news quickly and consistently." Actress Joy Bryant hit up the launch of Target's & William Rast's limited edition collection in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Target is partnering with William Rast, the premium denim and fashion brand co-founded by Trace Ayala and Justin Timberlake, to introduce a limited-edition collection for men and women. Available only at Target, the William Rast for Target collection brings edge to premium denim, leather jackets and outerwear. The price point ranges from $16.99 to $199.99, and the collection will be available only from Dec. 19, 2010 through Jan. 22, 2011.

ALABAMA HAS STYLE

I'm not sure how i missed this fashion news, especially since i live in AL, but Alabama-based designer Billy Reid is the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner. As the winner, Reid received $300,000 as well as guidance from industry tastemakers including Anna Wintour, Diane Von Furstenberg, and reps from Calvin Klein and Armani. Checking out his website, i instantly added his OLDEN BOOT (pictured above) to my last minute Christmas wish list.

Reports reveal that Simpson's new denim line is exceeding sales expectations and her 22 other fashion and beauty products, (including swimwear, sportswear and fragrances) turned in $750 million in sales this year.  Sidebar: is she still paying Nick Lachey alimony?

NICOLE RICHIE WEDS JOEL MADDEN

After dating for four years and parenting two children together, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden exchanged vows in Beverly Hills on Saturday. US Weekly reports that Rev Run officiated the wedding, and guests included Joel's twin brother (and Good Charlotte band-mate) Benji Madden, Khloe Kardashian, plus Gwen Stefanie and husband Gavin Rossdale.

FORMER MISS ARIZONA CONTESTANT HEADS TO PRISON

Former Miss Arizona contestant, Kumari Fulbright, was sentenced last week to two years in prison and six years probation for orchestrating the kidnapping and torturing of her ex-boyfriend.

Fulbright and three accomplices were arrested in 2007 after her ex-boyfriend told police that he had been tied up, held captive for hours, and then tortured.
